CEO & Founder
Mr. Taylor began his career in the insurance industry in 1975. In February 2012, Mr. Taylor formed Miravast. As CEO of the firm, Mr. Taylor is responsible for establishing the firm’s strategy and general oversight of all of the firm’s functional areas, and in conjunction with Mr. Beckelman, investor relations and portfolio management. Prior to forming Miravast, Mr. Taylor was the SVP, Chief Underwriting Officer for the AIG division responsible for investing in life insurance policies. He was the principal founder of its life settlements operation and managed the largest life settlement portfolio in the market, featuring over $5 billion invested in approximately 7,000 policies with a total face amount of more than $20 billion. His responsibilities included the development of the group’s mortality table and all aspects of the pricing of life settlements. Mr. Taylor has a B.S. in Applied Mathematics from Brown University and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, as well as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Mr. Beckelman began his career in the insurance industry in 1998. He has held various senior positions in new product development and portfolio management. Mr. Beckelman joined Miravast in May 2012 and is responsible for actuarial analysis and asset selection, and in conjunction with Mr. Taylor, investor relations and portfolio management. Prior to joining Miravast, Mr. Beckelman was SVP & Chief Life Actuary for the AIG division responsible for investing in life insurance policies. At AIG, he was instrumental in the execution of the largest rated securitization of life settlements the enhancement of the mortality tables and the valuation methodology used for the management of the company’s life settlements portfolio, and the implementation of a financing structure that helped to support the portfolio. Mr. Beckelman has a B.S. in Actuarial Mathematics from University of Michigan, College of Literature, Science and Arts and is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, as well as a member of the American Academy of Actuaries.
Executive Vice President, Chief Medical Officer
Mr. Zinn began his medical underwriting career in 1981. Mr. Zinn joined Miravast in February 2012 and has built an experienced team of seven underwriting professionals. Mr. Zinn’s background includes over 10 years leading the Medical Underwriting Department within the AIG division responsible for investing in life insurance policies. In this role, he developed and managed a team of 18 medical underwriters which produced over 120,000 underwriting reports. He was also responsible for the creation and maintenance of the underwriting manual that served as the basis for the team’s efforts. Mr. Zinn received his B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Delaware and is a Chartered Life Underwriter, a Fellow of the Academy of Life Underwriting and a Fellow of the Life Management Institute.
Chief Marketing Officer
Mr. Cherkas began his career in financial services in 1998. He joined Miravast in May 2016 and has significant experience in the life contingent asset class. Prior to joining Miravast, Mr. Cherkas was with Coventry for 17 years and has held senior positions in origination and capital markets. He has also served as a consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers as a member of the Financial Advisory Services practice. With deep experience in capital markets and extensive knowledge of the secondary market for life insurance, Mr. Cherkas is an integral part of the company’s marketing and asset sourcing efforts. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lehigh University.
VP, Operations and Technology, Chief Compliance Officer
Mr. O’Leary began his career in the insurance industry in 1985 and has held positions in accounting, finance, client relations, project management, and operations. Mr. O’Leary joined Miravast in April 2012 and is responsible for the firm’s operations, including accounting, technology and compliance. Prior to joining Miravast, Mr. O’Leary was the Vice President of Operations for the AIG division responsible for investing in life insurance policies, where he was responsible for the development and ongoing management of the operations and technology platform supporting the largest life settlement portfolio in the market. Mr. O’Leary holds a B.S. in Accounting from Iona College and a Masters of Business Administration from Pace University.
